I'm sure that many of you have dreams of being this or becoming that. It great to have dreams; it's even better when we are able to fulfill them.
I'm a senior citizen (don't see myself that way, though) who still has dreams and goals to accomplish. I was always a fan of radio and now I have my own radio program on the internet. I am serious considering doing my master's degree in creative writing. I have other dreams that I will accomplish. It's important to have dreams and desires throughout life because we are ever changing whether or not we may feel it.
I have fancied myself being a queen, a bride, princess, chanteuse, and a model. Not exactly realistic but dreams nevertheless. All of us should have something in mind that we could like to do. It may involving making changes in our lives; mindset, location, even the people we may hang out with. Living a full and abundant life is something we all should strive for.

Being Prepared
I went to the library today gathering poems for an upcoming radio program. I took note of all the time that goes into reading them, choosing the poems I'll use, and some history of the author. As I think about the concerns that transgender people have, it requires that same diligence.
I have never seen myself as an activist but I'm being drawn into it more out of necessity. There are a number of concerns that I have that I will be tackling. Doing my homework on the issues and aspects of being transgender is VERY important because when you have information (and lots of it), one can go on the offensive. Transgender people are making progress because we have decided to handle our own business. We've been thrown under the bus too many times. Lives have been affected in the process.

Trans Women's Group
Last night I went to a trans women group meeting at the SAGE center. There were ten or twelve women in attendance. I arrived about twenty minutes late but really didn't miss much. The topic discussed was dating after sixty. I enjoyed listening to the concerns of the participants regarding dating and meeting someone who's interested in them. This was the first meeting I attended. Last month's meeting was snowed out.
I met a woman named Kelly who volunteers with Empire Pride Agenda, an organization here in New York State which is working to get the Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act passed. There will be lobby day in late April of which I will attend.

Ar Men Lighthouse
Located on the west end of Brittany, Ar Men was built under some difficult conditions. It is located in an isolated part of Brittany. It was completed in 1881 and automated in 1990. I love the pic above with the waves crashing around this structure. To me, Ar Men has most certainly proved its mettle.

New Day Here
More and more I see many municipalities, school administrations, and law and legal institutions, and religious organizations grappling with TGLB rights. Some seem so surprised that such an issue would come up. There was a time when such topics as gay an lesbian rights and transgender protections was taboo. Well, that day has ended.
I was reading my emails and took note of many places you wouldn't think would be talking about TGLB concerns much less voting on them. Places like Kansas, Nebraska, Georgia, Wyoming and Mississippi. Countries in Africa, Latin and South America and Europe are now having to discuss and take action on the issue. I wonder what happens when the people making these decisions discover that their son or daughter is gay. What do they think when their child tells them that they believe are opposite of their birth gender. I often wonder if some folks who are staunch enemies of TGLB rights are struggling with same sex attractions. I truly do wonder about this, but I digress.
To me, this is an exciting time in history. Being a part of te change is very exciting and scary. I know what could happen but it's worth it. Being a part of something bigger than me is a challenge that I welcome and embrace.

Striking A Balance
One topic I see discussed on the forums I subscribe to is trying to balance the masculine and feminine side of our personality. I can imagine that it can be a shock to we possess more masculine or feminine traits than we thought. Now the hard part comes when we try and strike a balance between the two.
It took me over a year to feel comfortable with my new identity as a transgender person. It took more months for me to progress from a cross dresser to a transgenderist to transgender. There were times of emotional shifts in my personality and thought process. It was quite a process because of dealing with emotions that I either never felt before or may not have known that I have. Whenever I came to a fork in the road, I had to choose either to remain where I was or proceed ahead. Now, several years later, I'm still making many changes in my life.
Interacting with the public has helped me in being comfortable about myself. I am seen as a woman for the most part and I found this satisfying. To me, it's success because I'm being my authentic self. I enjoy the activities in life that I enjoyed before my transformation. It gets better every day and I am undertaking new projects and activities.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
I attended my second indoor track and field meet yesterday along with my wife. Men and women from the City University systems in New York competed for the indoor track and field titles. City College and Hunter College, two perennial powers, won the men's and women's titles respectively. I took note that both teams are relatively young (freshman and sophomores). I still love track and field and at times felt like getting on the track and running.
My congratulations to the City College (CCNY) Beavers and the Hunter Hawks.
Below are a few photos from the meet.
P.S.- Notice that both City and Hunter have purple as their primary colors.

We Do Not Put Religious Freedom In Danger
The more that I'm out the more I have the desire to share more of myself to others. I have be able to give answer to why I'm the way I am. With the governor of Arizona vetoing SB1266, it seems that battles have been drawn. In a sense I saw this coming down the pike a couple of years ago. No one has a right to tell anyone that they aren't human. No one has right to deny people of their rights to live a productive live. Using religion to discriminate is deadly wrong.
Those who deny TGLB people service, medical care, or housing or employment because of 'religious beliefs' I would like to ask what are their beliefs? And to say that their freedom to express their will be denied is totally bogus and a lie. Religion was use to deny rights to African-Americans, Native Americans, women and immigrants. Eventually many church have to mend the errors of their ways.
I'll tell you who endangers religious freedom-it's those people who demand that everybody be like them, think like them, and do what they say. It's the reason why some have given up their faith or others won't touch it with a ten foot pole. It's time that we who are spiritual reclaim our faith and demonstrate God's love to ALL people.

Spring Training
The 2014 baseball season has begun. As a die-in-the-wool Mets fan I'm hoping for improvement for my favorite baseball team. Looking at the team now, there are so many questions. Who plays first base and shortstop. I have questions about the bullpen and catcher. I don't know who will be bench players. As a suffering fan of this team, 74 wins won't cut it. If they break .500, it's a step in the right direction.

Choosing My Battles
Tonight my wife and I were talking about a number of events that are happening here and abroad. I have been seeking to get involved in issues that are important to me. Choosing what battles to become engaged in is not always easy. There's only so much that an individual person can do. It takes much thought, guidance, and counseling to pick the ones that we believe are important.
I'm preparing to speak to my church family about transgender basics (Transgender 101) in June during pride month. It will be a good time to educate folks about what it is to be transgender. This is greatly needed in the church and outside the church. I have made it a personal mission to educate people that transgender people front and center during the famous Stonewall Riots in 1969 in New York City. It seems that some want to erase our participation in this historical event. I'm not going to let that happen.
Another battle I will be active in is seeing that the Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act in New York State comes for a vote this year. It's been on the docket for over a decade and I'm tired of all the excuses and oversights on why it has not passed. I'm still doing my homework on which organization to become involved with about this. Well, these are just three battles that I will be actively involved in.I will keep you posted on how things are working out.

Meditating This Morning.
I was sitting in a quiet space this morning meditating. Feelings of joy and contentment gradually flowed through me. I was misty eyed, realizing how grateful I am for everything that happened to me. I thanked God for everything in my life.
I have noticed that I cry more (out of joy and empathy) than I ever did as a male. Being a transgender woman, I have become the real person that I'm supposed to be. I'm not afraid to show these emotions which is something new to me. I realized how many people actually love me. I wept even more at this thought. I thought about all the people who have been in my life and how they have shaped me to become the person that I am today. For that, I'm truly grateful.

Lighthouses And Life
I admit my love affair for lighthouses. These structures are often located in isolated areas and many times offshore. They have saved many a seafaring vessel from a watery abyss. When I view this particular photo, it shows the mettle lighthouses earn. I can imagine a ship traversing rough seas, then see that beam of light across the water. I'm sure that a few sailors felt like kissing the ground that the lighthouse stands.
What the lighthouse represents to me is this; no matter how dark life may seem now there's always brighter days ahead. Sooner or later the dark clouds lift and the sun comes out. Think of the folks who were there during your darkest moments. They were a beacon of light when you couldn't see what was ahead. It's wonderful to remember those times and know that it can happen.

Mine No More
"L A's fine, but it ain't home,
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more."
Lyrics from 'I Am, I Said', sung by Neil Diamond
The top photo is a storefront that was a record store, Bob's. I first went there in 1968 and did so until last July, when it shut it's doors for good. A frozen yogurt establishment was suppose to be there, but the site is still vacant. The middle photo was Papaya King, long a neighborhood staple. My wife and I found the place closed a couple of months ago. The bottom picture was formerly a Barnes and Noble.
These three establishments were a part of my youth in the late nineteen sixties. Greenwich Village was once an avant-garde neighborhood where artists, musicians, poets, and actors lived and honed their craft. Performers like Bob Dylan, Richie Havens, Lenny Bruce, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac made The Village their stomping ground.
Today, gentrification has absorbed many establishments. Profits are more important than creativity and community. I find many places artificial, somewhat elitist, and lacking any sense of diversity. It's more 'Look at me, check me out' rather than enjoying the music or poetry or acting. I have nothing against a neighborhood improving itself, but at the expense of losing its soul?
It makes me sad because the new denizens really lack knowledge of what Greenwich Village was about. I'm an old relic from a bygone era. A neighborhood without is like an empty tomb; there's nothing there but old dry bones.

Saw Frosty Today
I took this photo today as I was walking from the community center. We've had a lot of snow this winter and still have about 5 weeks to go. Today was mild. This snow was almost seven feet tall. the people who made this took their time. It reminds me of my childhood when a big snowstorm each winter gave us the opportunity to make our own snowman.

I've Changed
I go out and about almost every day. I'm either shopping, or dining, or browsing in bookstores. Interacting with public has been a boost to my confidence. More and more people view me as a woman. While I appreciate the compliments being feminine has become natural.
About a week ago, it hit me that I have changed. You could say it was an 'ah ha!' moment. I never thought consciously about the changes that have happened; it's that my gender identity is a natural part of me. The changes in my transition have been subtle but they have happened nevertheless.

I Still Love Track and Field
This past Saturday my wife attended a track and field meet at the 168th Street Armory here in New York City. Men and women from high schools and colleges from all over the country and Canada came to complete. I and my brother ran here in 1966 and 1967 in high school. I hadn't been to the armory since 1974.
The armory has changed much. In my day the runners ran on wooden floors instead of the banked track they now have. What thrills me the most watching these young men and women compete. My wife enjoyed it very much. I congratulated the University of Wisconsin men's team (I was sitting in their section). The women's crown was won by the University of Arkansas. We plan on attending a couple of more events.

Religious Liberty
In 2005, Kansas voters overwhelmingly passed a constitutional amendment that restricted marriage in this state to be between one man and one woman. Since that time, almost 100,000 one-man, one-woman Kansas couples have divorced.
Perhaps the argument that same-sex couples threaten the sanctity of holy matrimony should be laid to rest.
While arguing in favor of the gay-marriage ban, then-Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline said if courts can allow gay marriage, they also can limit lawmakers from attempting to prohibit polygamy and incest. He might as well have thrown bestiality in there as well, as most opponents of gay marriage usually list that second in the domino effect.-hdnews.net.
I read this article a week ago. I couldn't get it out of my mind so I decided to post it and comment.Though the article focuses on same sex marriage, the same tactics are used by anti-TGLB groups to prevent transgender inclusion. This is one of the battles I have chosen to fight. Much of the opposition's views and thoughts are totally bogus. They have no proof to back up their claims.

Split Rock Lighthouse-Minnesota
How often do you talk about a lighthouse located in Minnesota? Well, eastern Minnesota is on the shores of Lake Superior. Split Rock Lighthouse was opened in 1909 in response to the numerous shipwrecks near the coastline. Headkeepers oversaw the lighthouse from 1910 until 1961. Split Rock was decommissioned in 1969.
Today, Split Rock Lighthouse is under the auspices of the Minnesota Historical Society. It is the most visited site in the state of Minnesota.

Congrats To The Seattle Seahawks
I watched the Super Bowl yesterday with friends at a nearby lounge. I literally watched the Seattle Seahawks put a beat down on the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning. I predicted a close tough game. Never saw this coming.
I was out and about downtown and everywhere I went I saw a ton of Seahawk fans and much fewer Bronco fans which kind of surprised. The way I see it if you see a lot of fans of a visiting team in your town, that's the sign of good things. As a dye-in-the-wool Jets fan, I had no rooting interest expect I hoped that Manning would win his second championship. The stadium sounded like we were in Seattle. The Seahawk fans definitely made their presence felt. The twelfth man was definitely in the house!

Challenging And Exciting Times
A day doesn't go by when I hear that another transgender woman has been killed. Just today I read that another trans woman was murdered in Brazil, a country with the highest rate of transgender women murdered. Mexico is second followed by the United States.
With the increased visibility of transgender people plus many place passing ordinances protecting transgender people, the vitriol has been wratcheted up a few notches. Many anti-TGLB groups are doing all they can to keep us marginalized and invisible. The United States has been the biggest exporters of anti-TGLB hate to such places as Africa, Jamaica, and eastern Europe. Many so-called 'Christians' have been the biggest purveyors of this hate.
This is the time to be vigilant. I have two projects that mean much to me. The first is to refute the lies that passing trans protections adversely affects religious freedom. The other is to demonstrate that transgender people have been at the forefront of movements such Stonewall, contrary to what some in the gay and feminist circles say.
These are exciting and challenging times for transgender people. I want to be an instrument in finding the solutions.

Suicide A National Crisis If You're Transgender
With the suicide of Mindy Fabian in Wisconsin, I am disappointed by the lack of attention to this issue by some TGLB organizations. Along with homelessness, TGLB youth are more likely to attempt suicide. It seems that these young people have to fend for themselves. It's tough enough that school cannot be a place where they can find some stability. The problem is that many school administrators are ignorant or lack knowledge about transgender issues and many are not open to the suggestion of helping them.
This is one area that I'm concerned about. It's very sad when society won't let transgender express who they are. Couple that with the fact they are looked upon as broken, defective, mentally ill, and not worthy of others time and effort, you have a recipe for depression, hopelessness, and suicide.
I will be taking a keener interest in this because too many young people are struggling and need help.

Last night, the TGLBQI group at our church met for our second meeting discussing faith and sexuality. It has been a lively and educational discussion with many concerns and discoveries.
Afterwards, we discussed election of officers in the group. I have volunteered with the education/activist position because I'm interested with educating people about transgender issues. We will meet again next month for further discussions.

Goals and Gender
I have learned that gender is not stationary. Every now and then I discover something new about myself and about the fluidity of gender in particular.
Early in my transition I saw myself as a dichotomy of two or more personalities. These feelings are stronger now. What I don't understand is how society ca say that people are either one gender or the other and cannot deviate from their assigned gender. It's as if the individual is betraying the gender they are born in. How can someone be betraying something that they were never really a part of?
I set goals every year at this time and work hard to achieve them. It seems that the subject of gender comes up though I don't really focus on it. I expect changes to come but there are those times when I wonder if transition is an option for me. More and more I'm viewed as a woman and I am comfortable in my own skin. Still don't plan on doing it but as I've said many times that door is still open.

New Dorp Lighthouse
I was unaware of this gem until I researched this. I spent my first nine years of life on Staten Island. Surrounded by water, Staten Island is a place still untapped in a few areas. I can only image what it was like 400 hundred years ago.
New Dorp Lighthouse is located on a hill overlooking the town. First built in 1856 it was decommissioned in 1964. Looking at this structure you would mistake it for a regular house.

More Changes Coming
I haven't had a paradigm shift in about year. Like life, gender is not stationary. I get the feeling that there will be more changes in store. There's the greater desire to expand my horizons. I have a couple of conferences lined up for later this year.
For some reason I have thought about a permanent name from my male name to female. I'm looking into it but haven't decided whether or not I'll do it. Perhaps in the future it will be an even stronger consideration. I believe before the year is out, I will out myself t one of my siblings. I've thought more and more about this. If something happens to me someone asked how I would want to be buried. Never thought about this but it certainly is a point of interest.

Went to A Real Estate Seminar
I spent the past three days at a real estate seminar. I'm sure some of you have head of Rich Dad books by Robert Kiyosaki. It was an eye opener for me in that real estate can be acquired with little or no money. What impressed me is the importance of mindset. The rich have a a totally different mindset from the average person. Time has come for me to move head and make some money. Told my son about it and he is interested. I am looking into securing funds for future training.

Another Transgender Woman Murdered In Brazil
Another trans woman was found dead in Brazil. Elizalber Oliveira de Mesquita, 39, was killed, her head presumably smashed with rocks. Blood was found on one of the rocks. It seems that ever since Transgender Day Of Remembrance the violence against transgender women has ramped up. Brazil has the most transgender murders in the world. God only knows how many deaths go unreported.

The Need To Come Together
2014 is a big year for us. The time is here that all people on the transgender conundrum.to put aside differences and egos and work together. Cross dressers, gender variant, transgender, transsexuals, drag queens and all the other expressions will need to find things that they agree on and work on. One reason our enemies are successful is that they are organized and together. We need to be the same.

Happy New Year
Happy 2014! Now everybody has a clean slate. What will you do that you did not do in 2013? I mentioned in a previous post that working to see the Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) become law here in New York State is very important to me.
I'm sure some of you are formulating goals for the year. Be sure that your goals are realistic. If they need tweaking, do so. Goals shouldn't be so rigid that you keep you from making changes. When you have achieve a goal, create another one. I find that goals have more teeth to them than simply making resolutions. It's wonderful when those goals are achieved. I wish you all a productive and happy year.

This the first time I have featured a lighthouse in Scandanavia. I was fascinated by this red brick structure located on a small island which, at high tide, reveals only the lighthouse. It was built in 1880 and automated in 1987.

A Clean Slate
One aspect of ending the year is letting go of the things that didn't go well. I was asked the question what I wanted to let go of from 2013 and want to do in 2014. I was letting go of all the negative influences. Letting go of negative people, thoughts, and activities will release me from all the negative energy that can stop me from accomplishing my goals.
For 2014, I want to speak out more about issues that concern me. The Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act is one issue that's dear to me. Here in New York State transgender employees can be denied employment or be fired from their jobs just because they are transgender. I have other concerns but this one is really important to me.
I look at the new year as beginning with a clean slate. It's the chance to start over and achieve those goals we never accomplished or forgot. Think positive! You can do it.

2013
I will say that 2013 went by very, very fast. Much has happened for me, personally. I was out more than ever enjoying life. My wife accepts me 100% as transgender. I never danced so much in my life as I went a couple of parties, a wedding reception and my first prom.
I am happy about the many achievements accomplished in the trans community. I will list some in a future post. The increased visibility has had helped people see that we are human and deserve respect and dignity. At the same time, those who seek to erase us from existence have increased their attacks on us. I attended Transgender Day of Remembrance last month and still remember the evening as if it was yesterday. It renewed my commitment to see the Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act become law here in New York State.
As 2014 comes upon me, I will continue to educate people about our role in the Stonewall Riots in 1969 and other events. I have a degree in education and always believe that I would not teach in a conventional way. May be this is what my calling is.

History Lessons
I find myself having to give history lessons about the role transgender people played in the 1969 Stonewall Riots. There are powerful forces who want to erase our participation in these events. I've taken it upon myself not to let that happen.
Transgender people were front and center in the beginning. People like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera and Miss Major stood in the face of way police batons. Yes, we were there. Thought transgender people were pushed to the margins no one can deny our participation. I taken the task of gathering information about transgender people of color and their participation in many of the social topics throughout history.

Many Reasons Transgender Rights Are Behind In The Equality Race
I was reading an article about how transgender rights is twenty years behind gays and lesbians rights. What the article neglected to say is why. Well, I'll highlight a few.
At the Stonewall Riots in 1969, it was transgender people and drag queens who stood fat the police. Later, when the leadership positions were secured by predominant middle class, white gay males, transgender people were shunted to the margins. Why? We didn't look 'presentable'. It was feared that we would hurt the movement for equality. To this day I fail to see how.
Many gay and lesbian groups threw up roadblocks so we could not join their organizations. Trans people had a difficult time during seventies and eighties getting the resources that they needed. In my mind, groups like TERF and people lie Janice Raymond are complicit in the deaths and suicides of transgender and gender variant people. Strong words from me but I stand by them.
I find even more disturbing is that our history(and especially people of color) is being whitewashed and erased regarding our involvement in Stonewall and other movements. I'm proud of my trans history and we should be. I'll be damned if that's going to happen.
In the drive for marriage equality, transgender rights were either ignored or 'conveniently forgotten' in the euphoria of the passage of marriage equality. That was the case in New York State in 2010.
Lastly, social and religious institution haven't been receptive to the idea of transgender rights. Misinformation, lies, and fear rule the day.
One thing I don't want to hear is that we were never involved in the fight for equality and respect. At Stonewall transgender people were front and center while many gays slinked back in the shadows.
This is a very touchy subject with me because it didn't have to happen. It's true that many lives have been affected from without; however just as many were affected from within. That, I find disturbing.

Two Transgender Women Murdered In Cleveland
Two transgender women were killed in Cleveland, Ohio in two consecutive days. Betty Skinner, a 52 year old disabled woman, was found dead in her apartment with head injuries. The next day Brittany Stergis, 22, was found in her car dead from a gunshot wound to the head. There have been no arrests in either case. The news media, as usual, mispronounced the victims' name, referring to their male names instead of their female names.
I understand the fear and concern of the Cleveland transgender community. If anyone has any information, please call the local authorities.

Reflection
Transgender Day Of Remembrance was two weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. It's part of my time of reflection which occurs during this time of year. I'm thankful for many things; family, friends, a roof over my head, health. I'm thankful for being a transgender woman.
Ever year there's progress as transgender people are stepping up and stepping out and working to secure the equality that is rightfully ours. There is much opposition in the form of vitriol, ridicule, misinformation, violence and death. Still we march on, we must continue moving forward. No matter what has been thrown up against us we move forward.
As we reflect this holiday season, let's be grateful for who we are. I'm thankful to be living in a time when many trans people are living authentically. Though change has been slow but it's happening. That, I'm thankful for.

Christmas Season
I have been battling high blood pressure the past couple of days. The sudden change in weather (cold to warm) didn't help. I feel better to day than I did yesterday. I'm taking it slow and if it doesn't get better then I'll see the doctor.
I attended a seminar of Rich Dad. I've attended in the past and today decided to take the will taking 3 day seminar in January in real estate investing. It looks interesting and I'm excited about it. I trust that your Thanksgiving was a joyous one. Now it's Christmas season. My granddaughter already told me what she wants. Too bad my pockets aren't unlimited.

Thankful
Thanksgiving is upon us again. Yesterday at church my wife and I volunteered feeding folks who were hungry. This is the second year we've done this. I pray that they felt God's love.
This time of year I reflect on the year passed. I'm thankful for being alive to see others being blessed. I'm thankful for being in my right mind and for having a roof over my head. I'm thankful that my wife and I can help others experience the joy of this season.

TDOR-It is Still Relevant
As you notice, I haven't posted here in several days. I wasn't feeling well, my sister was admitted into the hospital and found out that she had pneumonia. She home now and has a home aid to help out.
I did attend Transgender Day of Remembrance this past Wednesday. There were speakers, testimonies, and conversation. There were candles lit in remembrance of those we lost. I was moved by the testimony of a man who was taught many things by a transgender woman. The woman committed suicide. He paid his respects, thanking her for making a difference in his life. I hugged him before I went on. After the event, I saw him sitting on a bench in the hallway. I encouraged hi to stay strong. I told him that she will always be in his heart.
I met a young cross dresser in the beginning stages of her transition. Elsie was happy to have come because she saw the many expressions of gender. I have been attending these events for the past eight years. Time has seen much progress but there's still a long way to go. It still hurts that so many are lost to violence and suicide. I said a few words encouraging every one to stay the course. People have taken notice that we mean business.

Speaking On Wednesday At Day of Remembrance
I will be Transgender Day of Remembrance services on Wednesday. I do so every year. I'm thinking about what I will say because so much has happened in the past year. I've dedicated the year to Islan Nettles, a 21 year old transgender woman of color who was murdered about a mile from my residence.
It is important that transgender people stay vigilent. Our enemies have ramped up their efforts to deny us equality and we must continue our efforts not to let them keep us from having the same protections and rights they enjoy.

As a veteran, I am reminded of what my service to the country was. It is something that I am proud of. It also bring to mind the one million homeless veterans around the country. Those Folks Who Are In Denial
I'm feeling much better today after a bout with high blood pressure.
Over the past few days I have thought about men and women who are in denial about who they are. I'm sure there are some who want to live their authentic selves but for one reason or another do not or cannot. I can understand why some don't come out. There are those folks who need to come clean for their on sake. I was in denial for several weeks before I came out as a cross dresser. It was a very stressful time but when I made the decision to live authentically all that stress and tension dissipated.
Denial can cause friction within the family, among coworkers, friends, and colleagues. The worst is when some politicians and high positioned folks deny TGLB people their rights, then we find out that they are struggling with the same issues. Coming out is a personal decision and I cringe when I hear some people and group who try to out those folks who haven't come out. The common reasoning I hear is that if they came out they could be an example to young people. People are more influenced by those people around them rather than some celebrity.
In conclusion, if you have come to the decision to reveal your true identity, do it. Denial is like being on a torture rack. I understand that some cannot reveal themselves and I pray that one day you can.

Coney Island Lighthouse
I remember hearing the foghorn and bell on foggy nights from the Coney Island (Norton's Point) Lighthouse when I lived in Coney Island (1965-1979). I lived across the street from the private gated community of Sea Gate, where the light house stood and still stands today.
Coney Island Lighthouse is located on the western tip of Coney Island along Gravesend Bay. The last gatekeeper of the lighthouse was Frank Schubert who maintained the lighthouse for over 40 years. When Schubert died in the 2003, it was the last time the lighthouse was manned.

Under The Weather
Spent the day in bed. Pressure is high so I need to take it easy.
This past Friday I read poems at an open mike in a bookstore. I recited a poem titled Lily*. This is a true story about a homeless woman found dead on the street three or four years ago. Lily's plight reminds me of the many transgender people living in the streets because their families do not want them.
It's getting colder here in the northeast. When the rains and snows come, I have a warm place to retreat to. Lily didn't and neither do a lot of transgender people. With the increased visibility trans people are getting this and other needs will come sharper into focus. I wish that more TGLB organizations would discuss and address this crisis.

The Needles Lighthouse
This lighthouse is located on the southwestern end of the chalk rocks off the Isle of Wight. Needles was first constructed in 1786. A second construction was made in 1859. A helipad was built on top of the lighthouse in 1987. The Needles Lighthouse was automated in 1994. In 2010, work was done on the underpinnings of the lighthouse so it wouldn't fall into the ocean.
I was struck by the location of the lighthouse. One would think that The Needles Lighthouse is in a very precarious situation but it has stood tall all these years.

Today my wife and I attended a conference on aging. Many topics were dicussed; everything from where you could learn about how to use a computer to accessing Medicare to benches being put on sidewalks so senior citizens can sit down and rest. Nothing about TGLB issues were brought up however I will broach this subject at future meetings. There's so much info out there; the issue was finding it.
There's an opportunity for me to attend a community board meeting in a couple of weeks. This will be my first time so it should be interesting. I will be keeping an eye and ear out for anything TGLB folks.

Greek Poets and Being Transgender
I spent much of the day at the library. I was researching poetry of ancient Greece, a topic I have a keen interest in. I read some of the works of Sappho, Homer, and Sophocles to mention a few. The freedom they expressed themselves was most revealing.
Reflecting on being transgender I am doing much the same. I overcome some fears (using the lady's restroom, for example) and feel much freer in my spirit. I'm sure that there were transgender people back in ancient Greece. I wonder if they were freer to express who they were?

St. George Reef Lighthouse
Located eight mile north of Crescent City, California, St. George Reef Lighthouse is the northernmost lighthouse in California. It is near the California-Orgeon border. It was first opened in 1891 and lit in 1892. One of the dangers of St. George Reef was the high tides and waves. Some lives were lost as a result. St. George Reef Lighthouse was also an assignment not everyone clamored for.

Gender-Varied and Complex
Today I have thought much about gender and how complex and varied that it is. It can't be pigeon holed because of these variations. I n a way that good because God looks at us as we are.
Over the past few weeks I've wondered if there is still more experiences I need to go through? I've always left the door open for changes that need to make. I'm curious as to where my journey will take me next. I'm doing some exploring and research about gender and sexuality. I wonder if the latter is as fluid as gender.

Exploring
As a child I often wandered in the woods near my home enjoying the trees, animals, and the streams flowing. I spent hours exploring the wonders of nature. Children explore many things around them trying to make sense of the world around them.
I have thought much about how as adults we lose the sense of wonder. I question many things, particularly within the past decade or so. It seems that conformity is trumping critical thinking and curiosity. I am still as curious now as I was when I was a child. When I was a scout, I loved the two week camping trips we went to during the summer months. We learned so many things about the outdoors. I tended to wander off during my free time and enjoy my natural settings.
With my gendered life, I am free to explore and experiment. One aspect of my journey is to be open to new experiences.
