GOALS
As 2018 draws to its conclusion, I have a few goals for the upcoming year. Some are personal, others for folks out here who I pray will have a blessed and positive year. I will post them in the new year.

ONWARD!
A new year has begun. New goals, new changes, more activity. I'm currently working on goals for 2018 some of which will be life changing. Instead of resolutions, I set goals. I write them down and think about how they will be achieved. This is putting teeth to it. A goal isn't worth it if there is no action plan. Goals may involve changing some of our habits. This is where perseverance and resolve come in.
I'm sure there are many of you that are setting goals and I pray that you achieve them. If they are achieved, set new goals. It's very satisfying when we accomplish which we previously set out to do. It gives us confidence that we can achieve anything.

GOALS
I already have two goals for 2018; getting my teeth fixed and legally changing my name. I could be a year I will become more involved with local and state politics. Thought 2018 would be a down year politically but it turns out not to be the case. There's so much misinformation and lies being spewed out which is confusing to many folks.
People will need to be more informed AND involved if they really want to see real change. Moaning and whining won't change anything. Also people need to quit being oversensitive about EVERYTHING! It's not worth it. it's going to take courage, clear headed-ness, and perseverance if we are to be victorious.

Genevieve's Gems
Getting organized in the normal routines of life and finishing little projects you started is an important first step toward realizing larger goals. If you can't get a handle on the small things, how will ever get it together to focus on the big things.

Setting Goals
Right now I'm thinking of my goals for 2017. Have a couple of writing goals already. I need to think of some personal and financial goals. I learned about setting goals when I was a tutor. Students were to set goals about what they wanted to accomplish. I could be from writing ten words to passing their GED test and everything in between.
It's really a thrill when a goal is accomplished. I breeds confidence and the idea that I can do more. There will be more challenges in 2017 because the changing culture of the times dictate it. It doesn't deter me from setting goals-just creating more of them.

Genevieve's Gems
Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people's criticisms, carry out your plan.

Last Quarter of 2014
Today is the start of the last three months of 2014. Usually my life activities pick up especially in November. Where did the year go?
Have achieved some of the goals you set back in January? It's still not too late. I have discovered that the last quarter of the year is a time for reflection. There have been a few instances where I was a state of limbo. The picture has become much clearer and now it's up to me to follow it up.

Goals and Gender
I have learned that gender is not stationary. Every now and then I discover something new about myself and about the fluidity of gender in particular.
Early in my transition I saw myself as a dichotomy of two or more personalities. These feelings are stronger now. What I don't understand is how society ca say that people are either one gender or the other and cannot deviate from their assigned gender. It's as if the individual is betraying the gender they are born in. How can someone be betraying something that they were never really a part of?
I set goals every year at this time and work hard to achieve them. It seems that the subject of gender comes up though I don't really focus on it. I expect changes to come but there are those times when I wonder if transition is an option for me. More and more I'm viewed as a woman and I am comfortable in my own skin. Still don't plan on doing it but as I've said many times that door is still open.

GENDA IN 2013
I havent though about my goals for 2013 yet but one came to me while I was changing the backround of my blogsite. Purple is one of my favorite colors. This year was one of coming out many times and connecting with like minded folks. It was a year of educating others.
In the upcoming year, I will be involved in two or three issues that are very important to transgender people. One of those issues will be the Gender Expression Non Discrimination Act (GENDA) here in New York State. Probably will travel upstate as to put a face on what it is to transgender.
I don't know what the other topics will be at this point but I'll post it when I have them.

Fringe Benefits
I have achieved many of the goals that set this past January. I also acheived some things I never expected. One of those benefits was to realize how intertwined my life is with the whole LGBT community. Five years ago, there was no way I could have envisioned that I would be a part of this diverse community.
During these days of reflection, I realize what things are really important to me. Coming out only three plus years ago, I feel that I have a pulse on many sides of the gender divide. Transgender people have a rich history that's always existed but was either hidden or ignored. I also have spoken out more about the mistreatment transgender people receive from social and religious institutions.
These benefits are something I never sought or thought of. It just was presented to me and I decided to meet the challenges. It been said that crisis can bring out attributes you never knew you possessed. That's certainly been the case with me. I have Native-American ancestry, so it's very possible that a Native-American prophecy is beng fulfilled in my life. I'm not afraid about where my journey will carry me. I just pray that other people will benefit from my example.
I find it odd that society says that we're an abomination and yet we've contributed more to the betterment of humanity than given credit for. It's very possible that we are debunking a lot of myths about gender and sexuality. I've said a lot here in this particular blog but encouragement and love are needed in great supply during this time of year.
