FRANCES THOMPSON (1840-1876)
Former enslaved black trans woman and anti-raoe activist
One of five black women who testified before Congress about the Memphis Massacre of 1866.
Thompson and housemate, Lucy Smith, were attacked and raped by a white mob.
Arrested in 1876 for wearing women's clothing. She wore women's articles since childhood.
Used crutches because of cancer in her foot.
Died of dysentery
